Welcome to the Quicktext wiki!

Quicktext is an Add-on for Thunderbird that lets you create and manage reusable email templates. Templates can include dynamic content through tags — recipient names, dates, images, attachments, and more — making it easy to compose consistent emails with just a few clicks or keystrokes.

Key features

  • Template tags — Insert dynamic content like recipient names, dates, clipboard content, inline images, and file attachments.
  • Keywords and shortcuts — Trigger templates by typing a keyword or pressing a keyboard shortcut directly in the compose window.
  • Scripts — Extend templates with custom JavaScript logic, either built-in or via external script Add-ons.
  • Multiple storage locations — Organize templates across local, imported, or managed storages, with support for external backends like WebDAV.
  • Central management — Administrators can deploy templates organization-wide through enterprise policies.

History

Quicktext was originally created by Emil Hesslow, who maintained it for many years. In 2018, John Bieling took over development and has since kept the extension working across every major Thunderbird release. The Add-on has been fully migrated to the modern WebExtension framework, ensuring long-term compatibility without requiring updates for each new Thunderbird version.
