A todo board for magicians who make things happen.
Lumous is a native macOS desktop app for managing tasks across Kanban boards. Fast, offline-first, and optionally syncs to GitHub.
- Boards with personality — multiple boards, each with its own color and vibe
- Drag & drop — move cards between columns with a flick of the wrist
- Four columns — Todo, Today, In Progress, Completed
- Shadow Board — per-board analytics dashboard with completion/creation heatmaps, daily plots, streaks, and interactive hover tooltips
- Responsive layout — full board (>800px), tabbed medium mode (450-800px), compact Today checklist (<450px)
- Celebrations — golden sparkles on drag, wizard celebration when completing tasks
- Auto-update — checks for new versions on launch, one-click update from within the app
- Offline-first — works without internet, always
- Wizard planning assistant — side chat panel powered by Claude (Opus 4.6 via Pro Max). Plans your day, suggests cards, reorders priorities with time estimates, assigns labels, sets recurring schedules, moves cards, and researches tasks in the background
- Wizard memory — say "remember that..." and the wizard saves preferences across all boards and sessions
- Per-card research — wizard researches any card in the background, populates description with markdown findings
- MCP server — Claude Code can read and modify boards via MCP tools (Pencil.dev pattern)
- GitHub sync — optional push/pull to a private repo with one click
- Tiny footprint — ~5MB native binary, instant launch
- Frameless beauty — custom dark UI, no system chrome
curl -sL https://github.com/fogside/Lumous/releases/latest/download/Lumous.app.tar.gz | tar xz -C /Applications && open /Applications/Lumous.appThat's it. No dependencies, no Homebrew, no account. Data is stored locally in ~/Library/Application Support/io.github.fogside.lumous/. The app updates itself — click the version number in the sidebar to check.
Why not a
.dmg? macOS quarantines files downloaded through browsers, which causes unsigned apps to be flagged as "damaged". Installing viacurlskips Gatekeeper entirely.
When GitHub sync is enabled, the following data is committed to your private repo:
| Synced to git | Local-only (never committed) |
|---|---|
| Card titles & descriptions | Wizard proposed cards (until accepted) |
| Card order within columns | Highlighted card markers |
| Color labels (moon crescents) | Research in-progress state |
| Goals & goal assignments | |
| Recurring schedules (rituals) | |
| Time estimates | |
| Completion timestamps & logs | |
| Ritual completion logs | |
| Board titles & colors | |
| Wizard memories & preferences | |
| Today Board focus sessions | |
| Session completion state |
Wizard proposals and highlights are stripped from board files before every git commit. Once you accept a proposed card, it becomes a normal card and syncs normally. Wizard memories and Today Board sessions are stored in meta.json and always synced.
