Python .POT File Translator

Introduction

This script provides a convenient way to translate .pot files using the Google Cloud Translation API.

Requirements

  • Python 3.x
  • Google Cloud Platform account
  • google-cloud-translate Python package

Setup

  1. Google Cloud Platform Setup:

    • Create a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) account if you don't have one.
    • Set up a project in the Google Cloud Console.
    • Enable the Cloud Translation API for your project.
    • Create a service account and download its credentials file (JSON).
  2. Python Environment Setup:

    • Ensure Python 3.x is installed on your system.
    • Install the necessary Python package: google-cloud-translate. You can install it using pip:
      pip install google-cloud-translate
      
  3. Script Configuration:

    • Place your Google Cloud credentials JSON file in a secure location.
    • Update the script with the path to your credentials file, your Google Cloud project ID, and the source and target languages for translation.

Usage

  1. Preparing Your .pot File:

    • Ensure the .pot file you want to translate is accessible and you have the correct file path.
  2. Running the Script:

    • Run the script using Python:
      python translate.py
      
    • Replace translate.py with the path to the script if it's not in your current directory.
  3. Checking the Output:

    • After running the script, your .pot file will be translated into the target language and overwritten.
