ModelStack provides a clean interface for your local AI models. It removes the complexity of managing software tools in a command line window. You gain a central location to track, start, and organize your models. It works with Ollama and connects to tools like Claude Code to improve your productivity.
ModelStack requires a few items on your computer before it works. Ensure you have the following installed:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Ollama software. Download the installer from the official Ollama website if you do not have it yet.
- An active internet connection for the first time you run the application.
Follow these steps to set up ModelStack on your Windows system.
Download the latest version here
- Visit the link above to reach the repository page.
- Look for the Releases section on the right side of the screen.
- Click the most recent version label.
- Select the file ending in .exe to start the download.
- Save the file to your desktop or your Downloads folder.
- Double-click the saved file to begin the setup.
- Follow the prompts on your screen to finish the installation.
Once installed, find the ModelStack icon on your desktop or in your start menu. Open the application to begin.
The main screen lists every model currently present on your computer. You can see the status of each model, its size, and the last time you ran it. To start a model, click the play button next to its name. The interface will show a status bar while the model loads into your system memory.
ModelStack connects to other AI tools automatically. If you use Claude Code, ModelStack detects the path to your configuration files. This allows you to switch between models without changing settings in multiple places. You can set a primary model for your projects by selecting it from the dropdown menu in the top bar.
Click the gear icon to open the settings menu. Here, you can change the visual theme of the application. The default theme uses high-contrast colors to ensure text remains readable. You can also toggle auto-updates so the software stays current with the latest features.
Does this software store my conversations? No. ModelStack acts as a window to the models running on your own machine. It does not send your data to external servers or cloud storage providers.
What happens if a model fails to load? Check your Ollama service. Make sure the Ollama background process is running. You can verify this by checking your system tray for the Ollama icon.
Can I use this with multiple AI services? ModelStack focuses on local models. It integrates with tools that support local connectivity. It does not provide access to paid web-based subscriptions.
Does it require a high-end graphics card? The interface itself runs on any standard Windows machine. The speed of your AI models depends on your hardware specifications. A computer with at least 16GB of memory provides a better experience.
- Keep your models updated using the update button in the dashboard.
- Close large applications when running high-demand models to free up system memory.
- Use the search bar at the top of the screen to find specific models if you have a large library.
- Check the logs folder if you experience errors during model initialization.
If the application fails to open, try these steps:
- Restart your computer to clear the memory.
- Ensure you have the correct version of the .NET framework installed on your system.
- Remove the application via your Windows control panel and install it again.
- Check your antivirus settings. Some security software might block new applications that connect to local services. Add ModelStack to your list of trusted applications if needed.
- Centralized Dashboard: View and manage all local models in one screen.
- Resource Monitoring: Track how much memory each model occupies.
- Quick Toggle: Switch between different AI models with one click.
- Custom Themes: Choose between dark and light modes for comfortable viewing.
- Lightweight Design: The tool consumes very little power while idle.
This software aims to provide a reliable bridge between your system and advanced AI models. It removes the need to type complex code every time you want to start a conversation or run a task. By using this interface, you focus on your work rather than the technical details of model deployment.
