Since `serdect` changes the wire format, this should at least provide backwards compatibility for `serde_bytes` users.

This was removed in #1324 with the migration to
serdectwhich also changed the wire format.If we preserve
serde_bytessupport we at least have something which is backwards compatible cross versions.
