Objective: To publish the avkash.io chat apps for Slack, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Teams on their respective app marketplaces to broaden user reach and simplify installation for administrators.

Background: We have successfully developed and are testing our chat apps for Slack, Google Workspace (Google Chat), and Microsoft Teams. This issue outlines the steps, requirements, and common resources needed to list these apps on their official marketplaces.

Goal: To make the avkash.io chat apps easily discoverable and installable by administrators on each supported platform through their respective app stores.

Checklist:

• Review the minimum requirements for each marketplace (see below).
• Ensure all apps meet the functional and UI guidelines of each platform.
• Prepare all necessary assets for each listing (logos, descriptions, screenshots, videos, support URLs, privacy policy URL, etc.).
• Complete the developer registration/partner enrollment process for each platform (if not already done).
• Submit each app for review through the respective developer portals.
• Monitor the review process and address any feedback or required changes.
• Once approved, ensure the app listings are live and discoverable.
• Update our website with links to the app listings on each marketplace.
• Create internal documentation on managing and updating the marketplace listings.
• Plan for ongoing maintenance and updates to the marketplace listings as our apps evolve.

Minimum Requirements and Process per Marketplace:

1. Slack App Directory

• Minimum Requirements (as of May 4, 2025 - verify current requirements on the Slack developer portal):

  • Functionality: The app must provide clear value to Slack users and adhere to Slack's API guidelines.
  • OAuth Flow: Implement a secure OAuth v2 flow for installation.
  • App Home: A functional and informative App Home is generally required.
  • Stability and Reliability: The app should be stable and reliable in operation.
  • Privacy and Security: Adherence to Slack's security and privacy policies is crucial.
  • Minimum Installation Threshold: Historically, Slack has required apps to be installed on a certain number of unique workspaces (e.g., 10 or more) before they can be submitted for review for the App Directory. This is a critical point to track your app's usage.
  • Review Process: Slack has a review process that can take several days or weeks. They assess the app's functionality, UI/UX, security, and compliance.
  • Listing Information: You'll need to provide detailed information about your app, including name, short and long descriptions, category, keywords, pricing (if applicable), support information, and visual assets (logos, screenshots).

• Process:

  1. Ensure your Slack app meets all the technical and functional requirements.
  2. Grow your app's installations to meet the minimum threshold (if applicable).
  3. Access the "Distribute Your App" section in your Slack app's management dashboard.
  4. Complete all the required fields for your app listing, including descriptions, support information, and visual assets.
  5. Submit your app for review.
  6. Monitor the review process in the dashboard and respond to any feedback from Slack.
  7. Once approved, your app will be listed in the Slack App Directory.

2. Google Workspace Marketplace

• Minimum Requirements (as of May 4, 2025 - verify current requirements on the Google Workspace developer portal):

  • Functionality: The Google Workspace Add-on must integrate seamlessly with Google Chat and provide clear user benefits.
  • Google Cloud Project: Your add-on must be associated with a Google Cloud Project.
  • OAuth Scopes: Clearly define and justify all requested OAuth scopes in your manifest.
  • Branding Guidelines: Adhere to Google Workspace branding guidelines for your listing and app.
  • Privacy Policy: A publicly accessible privacy policy is mandatory.
  • Testing: Thoroughly test your add-on to ensure stability and proper functionality.
  • Listing Information: You'll need to provide a detailed description, category, keywords, support contact, pricing (if applicable), and visual assets (logos, screenshots, potentially a video).
  • Review Process: Google has a review process that assesses the add-on's functionality, security, and compliance with their policies.

• Process:

  1. Ensure your Google Workspace Add-on is fully developed and tested.
  2. Access the Google Cloud Console for your project.
  3. Navigate to "APIs & Services" > "Google Workspace Marketplace SDK".
  4. Enable the SDK.
  5. Go to the "App configuration" section and fill in all the required details for your listing, including name, description, category, support URL, privacy policy URL, and visual assets.
  6. Configure the OAuth scopes your add-on requires.
  7. Save your configuration and then navigate to the "Publish" section.
  8. Follow the steps to prepare and submit your app for review.
  9. Monitor the review status in the console and address any feedback.
  10. Once approved, your app will be listed in the Google Workspace Marketplace.

3. Microsoft AppSource (for Microsoft Teams Apps)

• Minimum Requirements (as of May 4, 2025 - verify current requirements on the Microsoft Partner Center):

  • Functional Microsoft Teams App: Your bot and any accompanying tabs or message extensions must function correctly within Microsoft Teams.
  • Valid App Package: A correctly formatted .zip package containing the manifest.json and icons.
  • Microsoft Partner Center Account: You need to be enrolled in the Microsoft Partner Center.
  • Detailed Listing Information: Comprehensive descriptions (short and long), keywords, categories, support URL, privacy policy URL, and visual assets (logos in various sizes, screenshots, potentially a video).
  • Testing Notes: Provide detailed testing instructions for the review team.
  • Compliance Requirements: Adherence to Microsoft's policies, including security, privacy, and accessibility.
  • Review Process: Microsoft has a review process that can take several days or longer. They evaluate the app's functionality, user experience, security, and compliance.

• Process:

  1. Ensure your Microsoft Teams app package is ready and thoroughly tested.
  2. Log in to the Microsoft Partner Center.
  3. Navigate to "Marketplace offers" and click "+ New offer" > "Teams app".
  4. Follow the steps to create your offer, providing details in the "Offer setup," "Properties," "Listing," "Media," "Availability," "Technical configuration," and "Pricing and plans" sections.
  5. Upload your app package (.zip file).
  6. Provide detailed testing instructions.
  7. Submit your offer for review.
  8. Monitor the submission status in the Partner Center and respond to any feedback.
  9. Once approved and published, your app will be listed on Microsoft AppSource.
