Academic credit for contributers

Consider this a lower priority item compared to the Reuse page.

At some point we may want to make proposals on how contributors can gain academic credit for their effort. Authors can publish large contributions on brief research reports or research letters (example PMID 25164526). Relevant guidance for citing content at GitHub itself may come from:
