workflow.stderr and workflow.stdout only get populated with --verbose

Not really an issue for me, since I always ran with --verbose not to get bored on my computer watching an empty terminal.
But other people might not have the same ideas than me about what is fun to look at.
And not having stdout and stderr is problematic.
