As it stands, there is no place to discuss topics of an adult nature or to simulcast our 18+ panels. While I am not advocating for us to add channels dedicated to pornography, having rooms where we can discuss anime, manga, or other media which have adult themes, share artwork made by the community which may not be suitable for minors, and host adult games such as Cards Against Humanity may be worthwhile.
This issue aims to accomplish two goals. Firstly, to determine if there is an interest in such a category, and secondly to investigate a system for verifying 18+ users.
Describe the solution you'd like
If this is implemented, we will need several items:
- Create an 18+ role which will control access.
- Create a category and restrict viewer permissions to mods, bots, and those with the 18+ role.
- A system which will get the 18+ role to those who are actually of age and who want the role.
Additional context
In this case, a bot like the one proposed in #1 may be appropriate. Allow users to run a command to verify their age, then have the bot give them the role.
Other proposals:
- Patreon integration. Users who donate $1 and connect their patreon to discord will be given the patreon role, which grants them access to the 18+ category. This ensures users are of age by requiring them to have a credit card.
- Billing system integration. Depends on what information we keep on users and what we are allowed to access securely.
- Forget about verification, but still have it be opt-in. Make it so users have to specifically ask for it, either through a ModMail ticket or through a bot command, so that accessing this category is not accidental.
